Causeway Professional Design Suite
Causeway Professional Design Suite (PDS) provides powerful, easy-to-use tools covering all aspects of earthworks, development site infrastructure, and highway design.
Causeway's PDS software is used widely by civil engineers. It incorporates modules for highway design, volumetrics, alignment design, overlay design, drainage design and vehicle path analysis, as well as functionality for creating road markings and designing traffic signs. With its intelligent 3D modelling capabilities and powerful integration functionality, PDS also delivers all of the benefits of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to the civil engineer.
Performance gains for you and your team
Optimise the resources you have
Provide the team with the licences they require to work as efficiently as possible without breaking the bank.
All of the tools your team needs
Access all of the modules your team is likely to need, including digital modelling, road design, drainage design (including hydraulic modelling and simulation), road marking, traffic sign design, vehicle path analysis, and BIM.
BIM compliance
Gain access to the PDS BIM tools that deliver the BIM outputs clients require.
No need to wait for an available license
All engineers have access to licences on demand.
Access all of the modules you need
The new subscription bundles mean that the extra packages you would have liked but could not justify could now be available as standard in one of our bundles.
BIM outputs without changing your workflow
PDS BIM tools allow you to design as usual, but deliver BIM outputs as required.
Network licencing as a standard
Gain a licence manager hosted by Causeway. All licences are wide area networked and ensure optimisation.
CAD agnostic
PDS will run in AutoCAD but it is not essential as all software is CAD agnostic and will read and write DWG files as standard, therefore if you run AutoCAD LT it will still work for you.
Rationalise your supply chain
If you currently have legacy software, PDS will provide your engineers with the latest tools. This will allow you to cut the annual maintenance you pay to other suppliers, saving money on your overall annual spend.
PDS Bundles
Causeway Professional Design Suite (PDS) software provides a range of modules for all aspects of earthworks design and quantification, development site infrastructure design, and highway design.

Features
Ground Modelling
Digital model formation of surfaces from a wide variety for sources including DWG, GENIO, and Lidar. Standard outputs include spot levels, contours, cross sections and long sections. Powerful and dynamic updating ensures designs and annotation are always up to date.
Cut and Fill
Calculate earthworks quantities including construction build ups based on user defined material libraries. Display build ups maps to convey what has been used, grids of cut and fill levels, iospachyte contours or solid fill display, and formation models.
Surface Design
A tool set to allow the user to work with any type of irregular surface—ideal for the quick, effective and dynamic design of hardstandings, car park surfaces, and pitches. Better interfaces are easy to add to the model.
Storage / Balancing Pond / Lagoon Design
A unique wizard interface leads the user through the input to quickly model, quantify and calculate storage capacities. Dynamic updating allows the design to be tweaked and modified, with the updated outputs generated immediately. Designed ponds can be imported into Flow and analysed as part of the overall drainage network.
Borehole Modelling
An essential requirement of any site modelling exercise is the need to accurately represent sub-surface data based on geotechnical reports. This module will accept AGS data files directly from the geotechnical engineer, or allow the user to select and input the specific strata of relevance to the project. Sub surface models are automatically generated which can be interrogated for grids of levels, sections and volumes.
Horizontal and Vertical Alignment Design
PDS allows fully dynamic design of any type of route alignment. Designs and documentation to clear UK standards can be generated out of the box. There is no need to configure a whole range of settings before you are able to produce the information for submitting and setting out what your clients need and expect.
Carriageways / Junctions / Turning Heads
Carriageways (including freeform channels), junctions and turning areas are generated with ease, crossfalls and construction added and any of the design dynamically edited at any stage in the process. Any changes are automatically reflected in all associated features and output such as sections, annotation, and external reports.
Advanced Alignment Design
This is an extension to standard alignments for the design of major routes, with automatic and user-controlled transition curve, super-elevation application, and complex junction and roundabout designs. We also have tools to aid users designing by the Stockdale rolling crown method.
Drive - Vehicle Path Analysis
Drive is the latest innovation in easy to use vehicle path analysis. Standard libraries are provided for groups of vehicles, including DB32, FTA 1983/1998, ICE, London Fire Brigade, TfL, and TRRL SR662. Users can edit the standard vehicles and add to the libraries via a wizard interface. The paths are generated by driving the vehicle with straight-ahead, maximum left / right predictor polygons displayed to aid the user.
Drainage Network Layout and Annotation
Storm and foul drainage networks are laid out, manipulated and edited with tools that will automatically sense manhole locations and apply depth rules appropriately. Catchment areas can be identified with multiple areas and different permeability factors applied, loaded and recorded for reference purposes. Drainage sections, combined road / drainage sections, manhole schedules and powerful user controllable annotation styles are all included.
Integration with MicroDrainage and Causeway Flow
The layout completed in PDS is exported to Causeway Flow for hydraulic analysis of the network. A dynamic link is established and any changes made in Flow will automatically be highlighted in PDS, giving the user the opportunity to accept the changes or investigate further. Importantly, all aspects of the Flow design are carried back to PDS, including flow controls and storage devises, which are essential for a complete design and BIM output. 3D networks are generated automatically in PDS from the hydraulic design. Support for MicroDrainage integration is also included.
Flow – Storm / Foul Network Design, Storage and SUDS Design, Simulation, and Advanced Sim
Flow makes drainage design an intuitive process, from determining storm water storage requirements to calculating the discharge rates and volumes. Flow has the tools to design foul and storm water drainage networks, size up storage structures and incorporate SuDS features, then simultaneously analyse drainage submissions over a range of storm durations and return periods with climate change.
Utilities / Services / Under and Round Building Drainage
This module addresses the growing need for our customers to model all underground utilities, not just drainage. The services module includes specific tools to aid the user model under and round building drainage, bridging the gap between the structure and surrounding infrastructure.
Road Marking
Flexible, powerful and easy to use CAD independent (read and write DWG) software for the design and preparation of road markings in accordance with TSRGD using fully compliant fonts and symbols and line types. In-place editing provides great productivity gains and flexibility, and the dynamic nature of the markings ensures that any associated annotation reflects any changes made. Outputs are in drawing and BIM formats.
Traffic Sign Design and Sign Structure
Flexible, powerful and easy to use CAD independent (read and write DWG) software for the design and preparation of traffic signs in accordance with TSRGD using fully compliant fonts and symbols. Post and foundation design is all part of the package and can be output in drawing and BIM formats.
Network Licencing
Standardised wide-area network licencing offering our customers maximum flexibility and optimum licence utilisation for all of the functionalities of PDS Bundles. Licencing is controlled via a cloud-based licence manager hosted by Causeway, allowing access by users from any location with an internet connection. Licence borrowing is a feature that allows a licence to be borrowed from the network to a local PC for a given period of time, after which it is automatically reverted to the network pool.
BIM Level 2 Outputs
BIM compliance demands much more than 3D model output. All packages in the PDS Enterprise Bundle contribute to the BIM workflow with user controllable attribute data attached when generating outputs for BIM collaboration.
The coordinated design gives us confidence that profiles, manhole schedules and the construction drawings all tie up.Peter Matravers, Technical Director - Awcock Ward Partnership
Our company has been experiencing growth over recent years and we wanted our Causeway licencing bundle to grow with us. We approached Causeway with our situation and they worked closely with us to create a custom bundle that would suit our company for now and the foreseeable future.
